Synthesis and Production
DMSO is made by the oxidation of Dimethyl Sulfide ( DMS ) which used to be produced as a by product of the pulping process in the manufacture of paper.
It is now produced, almost, exclusively from DMS made by the gas phased ethioetherification of hydrogen sulfide and methanol.
